Here at Water Street School, Music is a huge part of everything we do!  We are certainly a school that sings. If you come to visit us we would love to sing you lots of the songs we enjoy singing both together and in our classes.

We enjoy live performances, taking part in community music events,  listening to a range of different musical styles, composting out own music, and performing.

Music at Water Street starts in Early Years,  where children love to learn songs, rhythms and express their creativity in different musical ways. From Year 1 right up to Year 6, children are taught music by our subject specialist teacher, Mrs Turvey. Every year each class has a block of subject specialist teaching.

During their time at school they will have experienced a diverse range of musical styles, composed their own works using graphic and more standard notation. Through playing tuned and untuned percussion, ukuleles, xylophones, boomwakers and a range of drums, children experience playing in a group and performing to others.

We are always very proud of our school  performances. Every year we put on a Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 Christmas Performances of music and song. In the summer term the whole of Key Stage 2 take part in a production. Previous years have included: Olivia, The Lion King, Pirates of the Curry Bean, Cinderella Rock-a-fella, Shakespeare Rocks....and many many more.

We are very proud to support Skipton Music Festival and every year over 60 pupils enter in piano, recorder, singing and choir class.

If you would like to learn a music instrument, please contact Mrs Macnab, who will be able to tell you more about the peripetitic teachers who visit our school.
